Under the map, you will find some information about each pier, as well as its address.
Pier A:
In the heart of Silkeborg, you find Denmark’s largest inland harbor. Since 1861, it has been the home of Hjejlen. The harbor is a vibrant area, popular with locals and tourists alike. Thousands of visitors lay their way here, enjoying an ice cream at the Hjejlekiosk, strolling along the waterside or setting off from the docks in one of the historic boats, a course charted for nature. The harbor is the gateway between he cozy city and the magnificent lake district.
Pier B:
Silkeborg Hostel, with its unique location right by Remstrup Creek, offers easy access to both forest, city, and waterfront. The Hjejle boats have a docking pier in the hostel’s backyard, making it easy to embark on your lake excursion from here.
The old railway bridge hanging heavily over the water next to the Hostel bears witness to the proximity to the train station, offering easy access to Silkeborg city center on foot.
Pier C:
Indelukket was purchased by Silkeborg Municipality in 1899 and hosts one of Denmark’s oldest mini golf courses, the Motorboat Club, the Kayak Club, and the Open-air Stage where concerts and festivals are held throughout the summer. From the pier, it is just a few hundred meters to the Museum Jorn, renowned for its extensive collection of Asger Jorn’s artworks. Gudenåens Camping is located very close to the pier as well.
Pier D:
The area, which in the old days housed a tuberculosis sanatorium, has been renovated and now includes attractions such as the Freshwater Centre and AQUA. Alongside Hjejleselskabet, AQUA is one of Silkeborg’s biggest tourist attractions. At AQUA Aquarium & Wildlife Park, you can experience Denmark’s wildlife up close. There are plenty of activities and experiences for the whole family, including a large water playground for hours of fun.
Pier E:
Since 1896, Ny Hattenæs has been a vibrant gathering place for happy guests – whether you arrive by waterway or drive through the forest, you immediately sense the whispers of history in the air.
Ny Hattenæs is a community hub where there’s plenty of space for everyone. It’s a place where you can take a refreshing break during your bike ride or stop by during your boat trip with our route boats. It’s the spot for those looking for a bite to eat before continuing their journey on the lakes around Silkeborg.
Pier F:
“De Små Fisk” is a popular bathing and day camping spot. It features tables and benches, bonfire and barbecue areas, and access to toilets and drinking water from April 1st to October 15th. Children have ample opportunities to splash around, swim, and engage in ball games and play on the large lawn.
On the outskirts of the area, you can see a large memorial stone erected by Asger Jorn in memory of the syndicalist Christian Christensen.
Pier G:
Slåensø is one of Denmark’s cleanest and most beautiful lakes. Feel free to bring a picnic basket! Tables and benches are set up by the lake. Borresø, where the jetty is located, is connected to Slåensø via Millingbæk, named after the small carp fish locally known as “løjer,” also called “millinger.” Slåensø is surrounded by hills, and the lake reaches a depth of up to 12 meters in several places. The hiking trail around the lake is approximately 4.5 km long.
Pier H:
In Svejbæk Snævringen, on one side you’ll find Aalekroen, serving delicious meals in incredibly beautiful surroundings, while observing the fantastic wildlife around the lakes and watching the boats sail by. It’s an experience for all the senses!
On the opposite side of the creek lies Skyttehusets Camping. There’s a cafeteria with panoramic views and it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the Hjejle pier.

Pier I:
Many years ago, Ludvigslyst was the destination for the annual class outing for many schoolchildren. The outing started with a boat trip from the harbor in Silkeborg to Ludvigslyst, where there was playtime and packed lunches before heading back home later in the day. Ludvigslyst inn was revived in 2012. The kitchen is based on organic and local ingredients, offering simple and well-prepared menus. It’s an ideal place to disembark from the boats and enjoy a couple of hours.
Pier J:
The name “Himmelbjerget” refers to Norse mythology and the highest mountain in the gods’ world, Asgard. The mountain is 147 meters high, making it the country’s 4th highest “mountain”. At the top, you are elevated 125 meters above Julsø, providing a fantastic view of lakes and forests in the Lake Highland region.
At the top, you will find the historical stalls and Hotel Himmelbjerget, which welcomes you to good food, festivities, and colors. At the viewpoint, there is the iconic tower, which today also houses a small souvenir shop.
Pier K:
Laven is a small “mountain town” with just under 400 inhabitants located on a steep slope down to Julsø. It overlooks Himmelbjerget and the protected Alling Bakker. To the west of Laven lies the medieval fortress site, the peninsula of Dynæs in Julsø. From 1907-1914, Dynæs was the residence of the poet Johan Skjoldborg, who held a series of highly attended public meetings at the site. On the hill above Dynæs lies the fortress site of Gammelkol.
Pier L:
Ry is a young town that first emerged with the arrival of the railway in 1871. Today, Ry is much larger than Gl. Rye and attracts many tourists who shop in the town’s good stores or explore the surrounding nature.
At the harbor, there is a kiosk, the restaurant Lakeside Ry, and it’s just a short hundred meters to Kvickly. It’s also not far to enjoy a good cup of coffee and a piece of cake, or a juicy burger at Ry Gastropub.
The 2024 season for cruises runs from May 4th to September 29th.
